Point systems are changing slightly.

1) All 40 man raid instances will be under the same point system.
2) All 20 man raid instances will be under the same point system.
3) Read the post about the changes to the ZG point system and the changes it is undergoing.

Original post by Worthless on Dec. 8th 2005:

Alright, a quick run down of how the MC / BWL Point system will be working is here. The point system is based on 2 basic concepts
1) Groups who accomplish the same thing get the same points.
2) If a player has the most points, that means he has showed the most attendance for the least reward. Because of that, he should be able to guarantee obtaining an item that dropped if its worth it to him.

Points are awarded as follows:
1) Attendance. I have a mod that takes attendance for me of everyone who is in the raid. When the first pull is made, I take attendance. Everyone in the raid at the time of the first pull is considered on time. Attendance is worth one point. This is mainly to encourage on time attendance.

2) Boss kills. Every time a boss is killed I take attendance again. Everyone who is in the raid when the boss dies is awarded 2 points.

3) I haven't done this on the past 4 raids, but I am starting this on Sunday (Jan 15). At the end of the raids, I am going to take attendance again. Everyone who is there at the end of the raid will receive a point as well.

Points are not awarded per epic drop. Why? Simply because in the last run there was quite a few random world drops. If people were awarded points for those drops in the future when people kill the same 3 bosses they would noy be awarded the same amount of points for the same time invested and the same mobs killed. I deem this unfair.

Item cost:
Tier 1 set pieces cost 30 points. Items go by the formula (thottbot item level) -36 = Item Cost.

Spending points:
When an item drops, it goes to whoever has the most points in the said category of the classes that are allowed to roll on it. Everyone has 2 amounts of points. One is for armor (the head, shoulders, chest, wrists, hands, waist, legs, and feet slots) and one is for accesories (neck, back, weapon, rings, and trinket slots) This will clarify what category items go under as well as balance a few issues with the way the system was. Two great examples of problems were Robes of Volatile Power and Salamander Pants. Both were useful for multiple classes, making it fall under non-set, gimping both classes on rings and trinkets for wanting items beneficial to more than one class. If 2 people tie for the highest poinit amount, they roll out of 100 to see who wins.

The idea behind this point system is to create a fair point system that awards people equally for equal accomplishments as well as gives them an opportunity to spend points in a fair / easy manner. I have looked into the bidding system extensively (I was actually for it in the beginning) and changed to this system based on the amount of possible corruption that can occur in a bidding system. Things such as if I know person a is going to be my only competition for a while but desires an item for every point they have, i bid one less than their max points and drain the entirety of their points. Is it the persons fault for bidding that much? Yeah. Is it worth that much to them? Probably. This way happens to be more fair, however, and also keeps the price of items from deviating extreme amounts, not allowing any one player to gimp themselves just so they can have a certain epic.

NEW AND IMPROVED

I have long been thinking about our priority system and how some people will never get certain desired items based on priorities. (Warriors getting swords that rogues could use, shamans/priests/druids getting trinkets, etc..) so we will be implementing a new rule into the system. If anyone who doesn't have preference has double the points of someone who does have preference and will receive the item otherwise, it will go to the person with the higher points.

Example:
Strikers Mark Drops
Hunter with 32 points
Warrior with 85 points
Warrior gets the bow.

TLDR blah blah

Original post by Kersidio on Dec. 1st 2005:

The site will not change, however the point system is going under a serious revamp in the near future. This is because of the gates of AQ opening. AQ 20 man and ZG will be under the same point system.

1) The points are going to be scaled down by a factor of 5.
2) Item costs will be scaled accordingly. Blues will cost 5 points, while Epics will be going by the same formula that the 40 person raids go by (MC, Onyxia, BWL, etc).
3) Points will be awarded for attendance, boss kills, and raid ending. The old way was by attendance and epic drops, so bosses will now be worth the same amount of points every time.

These changes effect the 20 man point system. Its basically going to mirror the 40 man raid system, with the exception that this will not have set or non set differences, all points will be lumped under one category.

I may have forgot another change, but if its brought up to me I'll be sure to post it.
