I sleep on my side
so is soft or hard the way to go?

I think in general a firmer mattress is recommended so that it supports your back. They apparently also give you a better nights sleep. Try not to get something that you sink into. _________________

My opinion has always been:
Firm, but not too firm, with adding a pad if you need the support. _________________ Sometimes the difference between victory and defeat can cost you your own sanity -- or your own life.

Check with you local cheap motel's, they may be getting rid of a used bed cheap!, this is a great way to score a big pink heart shaped bed, and it might even still vibrate!
